The Communications Coordinator position will to be based in Washington, DC. The position is full-time with health benefits, paid vacation and holiday time. SOA Watch Internships in Venezuela

http://www.soaw.org/img/venezuelamapsm.jpgFor the first time, we are offering two people the exciting opportunity to join our SOA Watch office Latin America office in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Interns would form part of the new SOA Watch Partnership America Latina (PAL) initiative which has brought hundreds of Latin American organizations to join forces with the U.S. SOA Watch movement to bring closure to the School of the Americas/WHINSEC. A time commitment of 6-8 weeks would be expected during the months of June and July. There is flexibility with exact dates. Click here to read the Summer internship description and for information on how to apply.

SOA Watch Internships in Washington, DC

http://soaw.org/img/dc-flag.GIFThese are the internship positions in the DC office of SOA Watch (click on the title for a detailed description)

·  Organizing Intern

·  Legislative Intern

·  Communications Intern

·  Fundraising Intern
Internships last for two to four months and interns commit to a certain number of hours per week. The minimum commitment is 20 hours per week; 32-40 hours per week is most common.

Interns become a full member of the SOA Watch staff during their internship. All staff responsibilities are expected of interns, such as participating in weekly staff meetings and sharing in the facilitation and note-taking of these meetings. By the same token, these interns are given the same decision-making power as a staff person. These interns have input into her/ his job description and work. In other words, an invitation to join SOA Watch in one of these four internship roles is an invitation to join the staff collective.

The internship program is generally very flexible and can be shaped for each person. An important part of the work environment is participating in the collective process and supporting each other in our work.

Father Roy Bourgeois Update
http://www.soaw.org/img/royfistsm.jpgFather Roy will be among the SOA Watch activists who will converge in Washington, DC for the SOA Watch Encuentro and the Lobby Days from February 14-17, 2009. Join us!

As many of you know, Father Roy has been threatened with excommunication by the Vatican after he participated in the ordination of former SOA Watch Prisoner of Consciece Janice Sevre-Duszynska. Father Roy is currently waiting for a response to a letter to the Vatican, in which he stated that he can not recant his belief and public statements that support the ordination of women, as the Vatican had requested.

Some of you have asked for addresses to write to in support of Father Roy and to ask that he not be excommunicated. Click here for a list of addresses.

Chilean Grassroots Activist and Former Political Prisoner Pablo Ruiz Espinoza Will Travel to Washington, DC for the SOA Watch Encuentro and the Lobby Days in February.

The work with Latin American social movements in the campaign to close the SOA/ WHINSEC has been a highlight that has energized people around the Americas. We are excited that Pablo will be able to join the events from February 14-17, 2009 in Washington, DC.
